Our Mom, Alma Mae Mulder was born at home in Alvord, Iowa on 10-13-1927 to Henry and Mary Mulder, immigrants from Holland. When Mom was around 5, Henry decided to move the family to Kimberly, Idaho where her father found work as a brick and stone mason. Mom went to school in Kimberly, Idaho and graduated from the class of 1946. She went on to work at the Parisienne Laundry.
Mom met George Paxton in 1948, and they were married on January 1, 1949, in Twin Falls at Immanual Lutheran Church. Dad served in the Navy and was called back to serve in 1949. He was stationed at the Naval base in Bremerton Washington, where later Mom and daughter Karla were able to join him on base housing. After Dad was discharged from the Navy in 1952, they moved back to Kimberly where Dad farmed. Later in 1952 John was born followed by Brent and Jim. Mom was busy on the farm raising their 4 children, and in 1959 the family moved to Twin Falls. After Jim began school, Mom worked in various office and store jobs. In 1978, Mom and Dad bought into an Arctic Circle franchise in Blackfoot, Idaho with Dad’s sister Marjorie and her husband Lloyd. In 1990, Mom and Dad retired and moved back to Twin Falls to the same home they bought in 1959. During their retirement, they spent 20 years enjoying their winters in Quartzsite, Arizona, making new friends, going on adventures, and playing lots of cards. In 2009, Mom and Dad moved into a new home and loved living there and meeting new neighbors. Mom is survived by her children, Karla Pippitt (Dale), Brent Paxton (Patti), Jim Paxton (Tami), her grandchildren Matthew Pippitt, Karly Pippitt, Adam Paxton, Ben Paxton, Erin Horvath, and Andrew Paxton. More grandchildren and great grandchildren came along with new marriages and families, including Tami’s daughters Whitney (Todd) Jessica (Colter); surviving nieces Kelly Washington, Mary Ann Robertson, and nephew Mark Mulder. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Bernard, Margaret, and Harold, son John, grandson Andrew, and husband George. The family would like to thank Pastor Roger Sedlmayr and Deaconess Amanda Mumm at Immanual Lutheran Church who regularly visited, read scripture, and sang songs to Mom. The family would like to also recognize the caring staff at Grace Assisted Living and the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s Medical Center who cared for Mom. A memorial service will be held Saturday August 16th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2055 Filer Ave East in Twin Falls. Viewing begins at 10am, service at 11am followed by a luncheon. Donations in Mom’s honor may be made to Immanual Lutheran School or of your choice.
