Annemarie Steinmann, 91, passed away on August 27, 2026, with everyone she loved in her heart and ready to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Dieter Steinmann, who passed away in 2016. (Mom, put your hearing aid in! Haha.)
Anna was born in Darmstadt-Arheilgen, Germany, in 1935, to Margarete and Karl Sommerkorn. Her father was killed during World War II. She grew up with her brothers, Karl and Reinhold, who also preceded her in death. Anna remained close to her family and her roots in Germany throughout her life.
Anna married the love of her life, Dieter “Dee” Steinmann, in 1955, and together they sailed to the United States in 1956 to begin their life together. They raised their three children in Granger, Utah, where Anna also worked at JCPenney as a beautician.
Anna loved German cooking, a good game of gin, golfing, and socializing with her many friends. She was especially proud of her three holes-in-one, although she acted as if they were no big deal—often asking her granddaughter Lindsay why she hadn’t gotten one yet!
What was truly special about our mother and grandma was that she was always there when you needed someone to talk to. She was understanding and helpful, but always straight to the point. We all loved her so much!
Anna and Dee retired to St. George, Utah, where they enjoyed many wonderful years together soaking up the sunshine and spending plenty of time on the golf course. They also enjoyed making trips to Mesquite for a little gambling and a lot of fun. They later moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, to begin the next chapter of their lives.
Together they had three children: Annette (Dave Baty), Ed (Jena) Steinmann, and Jeff (Deniece) Steinmann. Her three children meant the world to Anna, and she was so very proud of each of them. Just ask Lindsay—Grandma was always bragging about Annette, Ed, and Jeff and how proud she was of all they had done.
Grandma was just as proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always wanted to know what was going on in their lives. She loved keeping up with Kayla, Jayden, McCarty, Jason, and Derrick and hearing about everything they were doing. One thing Grandma especially prided herself on was that her family were hard workers. She was proud that she had raised hard workers—and even prouder that it carried on through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Many thanks and much love to our family in Germany—she never forgot you!
A special thank you to Annette and Lindsay for their love, support, and strength.
No funeral services will be held at this time.
We love you more than you will ever know, Mama.
Thank you for being so special.
Rest in peace, sweet Mama.
