Barbara Jean Cole Peterson age 87 passed away on February 22, 2026 after battling health complications.
Barbara Jean was born July 14, 1938 in Preston, ID to Voss Owen and Barbara Miralda Cole.Later she moved with her family to Filer, Idaho about 1944. Jean and Gary met in 8th grade in Lincoln School. They started dating their Sophomore year. Jean was a cheerleader and Gary was a football and basketball star. Jean went to Ricks College and Gary went to BYU only to meet back up with Jean at Ricks. They were married November 22, 1958 and later sealed in the LDS Ogden Utah Temple. Jean and Gary first lived in a trailer park near the intersection of Swensens market. They then bought a home on 1018 Lincoln Street. Next they bought a home on Gulch Lane in 1973. Jean worked at Filer Drug Store and then First Federal Savings and Loan for 33 years. Then she tried her hand at Starley Realty in the office and showing homes for about a year before fully retiring. Jean loved cats and her flowers. She would go to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids activities and birthdays. She would often be affectionately called "Grandma Petey". Jean's dad died when she was 16 and her mom married Rheinhart Kowallis. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, Her parents, Barbara and Voss Cole, Step Dad, Rheinhart Kowallis, her sister; Connie Ogden, Son-in-law; Monty Davis and Granddaughter; Kelli Peterson. Jean is survived by her sister; Marlene Nielsen, Sister; Norma Parrott, Brother, Jay (Eve) Cole, her three children; Brad Peterson of Sugarhouse Utah, Dana (Ron) Hansen of Tetonia, Idaho, and Shelli Davis of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A public viewing will be held Saturday February 28th at 9am at the LDS church on Park Ave, Twin Falls. The funeral service will follow at 10am at the church then cemetery service at 11am. Lunch at the church afterwards.
