Carolyn King, age 77, of Kimberly, Idaho passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born on June 24th, 1949, in Wendell, Idaho to Thomas (Bill) and Merle Matthews. Carolyn spent her childhood in Buhl before her family moved to the small community of Springdale, outside of Declo, while in her early teens. After graduating Burley Highschool in 1967, she spent a year attending Ricks College before going to beauty school where she won many awards and recognitions in cosmetology competitions. From 1968-1973 Carolyn was wed to Jay C Maxwell with whom she had Jennifer King-Jones and Melissa (Missi) Conover. On November 9th, 1973, she married her eternal companion Roland (Ron) King bringing Tawnya King with him as they combined their two families into one, and later welcomed Corey King born to the couple. Carolyn and Ron met on a blind date, and as Ron puts it, “she never took her blinders off”, although he knew after their first date that he was going to marry her. Over the years, Carolyn opened her home to many who needed a safe place including foster children, foreign exchange students, and an immigrant family. Carolyn found great joy in creativity and had many passions. She was well known in the community for her hair styling, sewing, painting, and cooking skills. The Magic Valley Decorative Artists is a group of friends she painted with weekly since 1974 until her illness made it too difficult. Over the years she taught many young mothers the basics of cooking, canning, sewing, and general housekeeping. Her talents blessed the home she created as well as the lives of everyone she encountered. Carolyn held various jobs including being a beautician, working at a collection agency, and in the special ed room at Robert Stuart Jr High; but she would say her most important job was tending to her home, family, and serving in the Church. Other hobbies she dabbled in included: stain glass, pottery, flower arrangement, and was a professional chef in a test kitchen for a while resulting in her famous cinnamon roll recipe being published. Her house has always been filled with a variety of her completed art as well as projects in various stages of completion … or … well intended beginnings. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents Thomas (Bill) and Merle Matthews and her sister Diana Hale. She is survived by her husband Roland (Ron) King, siblings Thomas Matthews and Susan Hill, and her children Tawnya King, Jennifer King-Jones, Melissa (Missi) Conover, Corey King and honorary son Sebastian Gaus. Carolyn has 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 222 Birch St S, Kimberly, Idaho on Saturday, August 29th at 11am, with a viewing preceding the service at 10am. Grave side services will be held at the Declo Cemetery at 3pm. In lieu of condolences, please share a story with the family of how Carolyn may have influenced you, taught you, or touched your life.
