Cheryl Fisher

Cheryl Fisher of Twin Falls, 81 passed away on Monday September 21, 2026 at Cenoma House in Twin Falls. Cheryl was born in Rexburg, Idaho on March 1, 1945, the daughter of Merle and Alta Fisher. She graduated from Madison High School and Ricks College and attended Brigham Young University. She served a church mission in England. She married Alfred J. Nickels and they had six children. They spent their lives together living in Provo, Utah; Idaho Falls and Twin Falls, Idaho; Chicago, Illinois and Jerome, Idaho. Cheryl loved the time she spent in her home raising her children. She always said they were the best years of her life. She especially enjoyed Jerome where she loved decorating the home and caring for the spacious and beautiful gardens. She served in the auxiliaries of the LDS church including ward and stake Primary President. In 1999 Cheryl moved to Boise, Idaho where she held the position of Project Director for Idaho Parents Unlimited, the Idaho Support Organization for parents of children with disabilities. She was a tireless advocate for the inclusion of children and adults with autism and other disabilities in mainstream school, church and community activities. She presented numerous presentations on inclusion strategies throughout the United States and in Canada. She received the IPUL Idaho Parent of the Year award in 1989 and the TASH National Parent of the Year award in 1991 for her dedicated work. In 2001 she married William Polites and moved to Manhattan and then to Pennsylvania. In 2012 she returned with William to Idaho. She worked for several years as a cashier for Walmart in Pennsylvania and Idaho. Cheryl is preceded in death by her husband William Polites; parents Merle and Alta Fisher. Cheryl is survived by her brother Fred Fisher; sister Joan Hoy; son Sean Nickels (Brenda); son Byron Nickles (Luiza); son Larry Nickels (Heather); daughter Tara Noftle (Reese); son Alex Nickels, daughter Rachel Nickels (Phil); nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday September 28, 2026, at 11am at Rosenau Funeral Home with a visitation starting at 10am.
