Christopher Steven Claunch

Christopher Steven Claunch, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and adventurer, passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident on August 1, 2026. Born on December 21,1966, in Torrance, California. After 18 years of growing up in the California life, he began a new adventure in Idaho.

Known affectionately by many as “Clauncher” “Toph” or “Posh,” Christopher lived life fully and fearlessly. He had a remarkable ability to turn ordinary moments into spontaneous adventures and was equally talented at creating unforgettable, well-planned journeys; including incredible European vacations that became cherished memories.

Christopher brought energy, passion, and an unforgettable spirit to every life he touched. He found joy in the outdoors and in the experiences that brought people together. He loved fishing, hunting, hockey, golfing, camping, and various other sporting events and explored every corner of Idaho. He loved being a chef and created incredible meals for family and friends. Gathering around a table with good food and great company was one of his greatest gifts. His cooking was legendary; just when you thought you had experienced the best meal of your life, Christopher would create something even more extraordinary.

His adventurous spirit carried him across Idaho’s landscapes and through countless experiences. Christopher embraced life at the edge, but three years ago he discovered a new and profound chapter through sobriety. Through that journey, he found gratitude, purpose, and a calling to help others. He was deeply grateful for the brotherhood and support he found at Renaissance Ranch, where he discovered the gift of service and the joy of walking alongside others in recovery. His transformation was a testament to his strength, humility, and commitment to living a meaningful life. Toph’s goal was to become an even more honorable man: Progress not Perfection was his mantra.

Christopher is survived by his loving partner of 25 years, Teresa Sperry; his father, John Claunch; stepmother, Rose Claunch; sister, Kim Castanada and her husband, Randy Castanada, in-laws Catherine Hunter, Linda and Dick Hammond, Paul and Tiffany Brady, Angela and Randy Hall and many beloved nieces and nephews who adored him. He is preceded in death by his mother Diane Hogaboam and sister Stacey Roberts.

Christopher was taken from us far too soon. While we struggle to understand this loss, we will hold tightly to the memories, laughter, adventures, and love he shared with us. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the meals he created, the stories he inspired, and the people he helped along the way. Our beloved Posh Toph Christopher will be deeply missed. We will trust in God’s plan, cherish the memories we have been given, and continue sharing his story for generations to come.

Christopher “Toph” Claunch lived a life of service, recovery, and brotherhood. He had an extraordinary gift for making every person he met feel seen, valued, and loved, and his unwavering kindness and commitment to helping others will continue to inspire all who knew him. As such, Christopher’s family would like any donations to go to the Renaissance Ranch Treatment Center Band of Brothers so that others can receive treatment in his name and continue to honor him.
