David John Cowger

September 23, 1953 — July 15, 2018

September 23, 1953 – July 15, 2018 David John Cowger, age 64, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was born September 23, 1953 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Spencer (John) and Margaret (O'Dell) Cowger. He grew up part of a farm family on the Salmon Tract and attended Hollister Elementary School. His grit and determination to accomplish anything he wanted was evident in early years. David graduated from Filer High School in 1971. He then attended Mountain View Bible College in Disbury, Alberta, Canada in 1972. He received his Doctor of Motors from College of Southern Idaho in Automotive Technology in 1973. David met the love of his life, Becky Dawn (Bauer) Cowger, in 1976 on a double-date with his brother Steve and now wife Vickie, and from there the rest is history. David had a passion for farming and his realization to spend his life farming began while working at Filer Super Service in 1972, where farmers brought in equipment for him to fix. He quickly felt in his heart that farming was where he belonged. He saw himself as a simple farmer, but his family and friends saw him as much more. David was a hard-working man of God who started with nothing, earning everything he had, ultimately leading to establish a foundation for his entire family. Some would call him a self-made man, but he would give all glory to God. His keen work ethic was never unseen and was passed down and instilled in his children and grandchildren. He had a tireless, never-quit attitude whether it be staying up all night to stack hay, or working harder, longer, and with more energy than anyone else. David had his own way of doing things, and although his way always worked, it usually led to his projects being so high quality, that they could hardly be lifted off the ground. He was a quiet, level-headed man, the type where you wouldn't want to miss anything he said or did or you would miss out on a lesson, laugh, or if you were lucky, a Falls Brand smile. David had ambitious dreams for himself and his family, starting with a 660-bean special combine with only a 10-foot header. He evolved this into his hard-earned farm land, array of equipment, and his pride and joy, second only to his grandchildren, the 9760 STS John Deere combine, with an air-conditioned cab and a much, much bigger header. David always had a place in his heart for Stanley, Idaho, and had a dream to one day build a cabin there. Together, David and Becky bought property to begin building a cabin in Stanley in November 2017. David served as a role model for his children and grandchildren. More than anything, he wanted to provide his wife and children with a happy and fulfilled life. He was an amazing father, husband, and grandpa, and will be missed greatly by many. His love, loyalty, and faithfulness to the Lord, his family, and friends, as well as his work-ethic, will be passed down for generations to come. David is survived by his wife, Becky Cowger, and their four children, Shane (Stacey) Blakeslee, Lisa Pearson, Davy (Janna) Cowger, and Dale (Jennifer) Cowger. His siblings Wilma (Mike) Mobley, Marva Ollenberger, Steve (Vickie) Cowger, Jerry (Shari) Cowger his ten grandchildren Mercedes, Morgan, and Tyce Pearson, Canyon, Aleia, and Jace Blakeslee, Garrett and Katie Cowger, Brayden and Brody Cowger. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all whom are now known as a bunch of crying bawl babies that will miss him an immeasurable amount. He was preceded in death by his parents Spencer (John) and Margaret (O'Dell) Cowger, his brother-in-law Dave Ollenberger, and his nephew Jason Leach, and grandparents. To those planning to attend the service, dress casual if so desired. He preferred well worn black wrangler jeans and solid colored shirts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stanley Christian Fellowship C/O Hans Buhler PO Box 68, Stanley ID 83278, a church that held a special place in David's heart. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 20,, 2018 at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in Twin Falls, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosenau Funeral Home.
