David “Dave” Lee Kramer, 84, of Twin Falls passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29 with his wife of 57 years by his side after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Cancer.
Dave was born June 27, 1941 in Omaha, Nebraska to Leonard and Alma (Ernst) Kramer. Dave grew up on a farm and attended schools in Schuyler, Nebraska and was a life-long Cornhusker. Dave graduated from Schuyler High School in 1959. He was on the 1958 Schuyler High School championship football team.
Dave and his high school friend Dan Wolf joined the Navy right after high school and were based out of San Diego. He was on the USS Gurke (DD783) serving in Japan, Vietnam, and other parts of the South Pacific from 1959-1965.
After an honorable discharge, Dave worked at Archer Daniels Midland in Schuyler and Schuyler Co-op before he began farming at Blue Gulch, Idaho with his Uncle Al Kramer. He had the task of driving some of the local girls who were hoeing on the farm and that is how he met Marilyn Schroeder. Dave and Marilyn were married at Clover Lutheran Church on June 23, 1968.
Dave bought a farm on the Salmon Tract outside of Hollister in 1966. He and Marilyn raised their two daughters – Marcy and Dawn – on that farm. Dave retired from farming and moved to Twin Falls in 2014.
Dave loved a good auction - starting with farm auctions. He then mixed his love of auctions with his life-long passion for cars – he could name the make, model and year of any car built from 1920-1980. He started going to car auctions with friends Bill Laughmiller and Gary Nelson and turned it into a side hustle in the 1980s. He owned Hollister Service and later had K&K Auto in Twin Falls.
Dave loved to snowmobile and he loved westerns and ghost towns. He and friends would snowmobile supplies into Silver City during the winter to the caretaker who stayed year-round. He loved to tell the story about how the caretaker scared them out of their wits one night by doubling back on the “haunted” room and taking the door out of their hands when they tried to enter.
Dave and Marilyn were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Dave served as trustee for many years. He was a member of the Twin Falls Monarch Lions and was proud to put out American flags around town on holidays.
Dave is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Schroeder), his daughters – Marcy (Steven) Kettner of Santa Ana, CA; and Dawn (Ken) Hall of Boise, ID; and three granddaughters – Lauren (Evan) Kettner Schlarmann of Des Moines, IA; Kendall Hall of Salem, OR; and Jamie Hall of Boise, ID. He is also survived by his brother, Dan (Lois) Kramer of Schuyler, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alma Kramer and a stillborn brother, Richard.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Twin Falls with internment to follow at Clover Lutheran Cemetery.
The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice Visions (especially Nurse Amanda), the caregivers at Cenoma House, Drs. Thiebot and Crandall, and the church family at Immanual Lutheran. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made to Immanual Lutheran or a charity of your choice.
