Delos "Sonny" Lamont DeWitt

December 3, 1937 — August 20, 2025

Sonny was born on December 12, 1937 to Howard and Katherine DeWitt in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the youngest, and the only boy, of their 7 children. He was a much doted upon baby brother and the apple of Katherine’s eye, her Sonny boy. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Sonny was adopted into God’s family in the waters of Holy baptism and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Twin Falls. He was raised in a Christ centered home filled with much laughter and love.

In 1957 Sonny married Lola Johnson and they had 2 sons, Lamont and Doug. Sonny was in the Military for 8 years and was honorably discharged in 1964. Sonny drove a Semi for Volco Builders for many years. Sonny loved spending time with his large and extended family as every gathering was joyful. Sonny was a great story teller and would have his audience shaking with laughter. He always enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and fishing, especially with his boys.

In 1971 Sonny married Jean Cooper in Riggins, Idaho. They would be happily married for 54 years. During this time Sonny owned a butcher shop in Lucille, Idaho and also farmed both in Kimberly and Buhl, Idaho. Sonny and Jean loved their small farm in Buhl, and it became “The Old Family Homestead”. They raised sheep, goats and chickens and always had a huge garden, which kept them very busy into their twilight years.

Sonny always held a deep faith and trust in his Savior, Christ Jesus. He passed that enduring faith onto his children, grandchildren and friends. Sonny was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran church in Buhl, Idaho for decades.

Sonny was predeceased in death by his parents, Howard and Katherine, and by his sisters Sylva, Carmen, LoDema, Dahlia, Maurine and Shirley. Sonny is survived by wife Jean, sons Lamont and Doug, Grandchildren Amber and Nick, Great-grandsons Colton and Mark, and by nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
