Effie June Schauerman Reed June 21, 1934 – March 6, 2026
Effie “June” Reed, 91, of Eden, Idaho, passed away peacefully on March 6th, surrounded by love and memories gathered over a long and beautiful life.
Born on June 21, 1934, in Twin Falls, Idaho, June was the daughter of John Schauerman and Anna Steinmetz. She cherished her Steinmetz family and grandparents, who played a significant role in raising her. Many of her happiest childhood stories came from days spent milking cows, working on the family farms, and getting into the kind of mischief that only a small town like Eden could inspire.
June began dating the “cute new kid” ,Glenn Reed, who moved to town during her freshman year. In high school she was a cheerleader and an enthusiastic participant in school plays, dances, yearbook, Girl’s State and anything else she could dive into. She proudly graduated with the final class of Eden High School in 1952 before attending Twin Falls Business College. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Barlow Warehouses.
On October 9, 1953, June married Glenn, and the two eventually moved to Pocatello, where she continued her bookkeeping career with Deaton and Company. Their joy grew with the arrival of their daughter Sandy, followed by their son John. In 1967, the family returned to Eden, purchasing the land and home where they would farm, raise their children, and build a life rich with hard work and love. Their daughter Lori completed the family soon after. June’s children were truly her pride and joy.
June was devoted to her home and farm, tending to her garden and flowers with the same care she gave to her family. She rarely missed a game, performance, or school event, faithfully cheering on her kids through every season. She served her community as a longtime member of the election board and was active in the Eden American Legion Auxiliary, where she was honored as Idaho’s Auxiliare of the Year in 1989—an award she proudly accepted at the National Convention in Baltimore.
Golf became one of June’s great passions. She was active in the Ladies Golf Association at Jerome Country Club, made many dear friends on the course, and even celebrated the thrill of a hole-in-one. She also founded and organized the Valley Rowdy’ettes women’s golf tournament, running it for more than 25 years and creating a tradition of camaraderie, service, and fun.
June loved to travel, especially once her kids were grown. She and Glenn explored much of the United States, as well as Mexico and Canada, often sharing these adventures with family and friends. They spent many winters in Oceanside, California, golfing, relaxing, and enjoying the sunshine. Her only lingering wish was to visit Germany, the homeland of her ancestors.
June was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Glenn, her daughter Sandy, and her brothers Arnold and Benjamin.
She is survived by her son John (DeeDee) of Hazelton; her daughter Lori (Duff) of Boise; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Deanna Matheney of Boise; and many nieces and nephews. June treasured the lifelong friendships she built and felt deeply blessed by the love and companionship of so many throughout her years.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Avista Assisted Living for providing June with a warm, caring home over the past five years.
