1938 Galen 2025

Galen Martin Lierman

September 5, 1938 — October 13, 2025

Galen Martin Lierman, 87, of Filer, ID passed suddenly & peacefully on 10/13/25.

Galen was born on 9/5/38 to Martin and Annie Lierman. He grew up and attended school in Filer & joined the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Elliott & did a tour in Okinawa,Japan. After his military career. He came back to Filer. He met the love of his life, Gail Montgomery, & they were married on 2/24/62 at the Clover Lutheran Trinity Church. They were married for over 61 years until her passing in 2024. They made their home in Filer and together raised 3 children where he worked many years farming, raising cattle, & construction up until his retirement.

Dad was always an adventurer dabbling in many things including bull riding, horse racing, he & others had a brief stint with fame in the National Inquirer for trapping jack rabbits in the magic valley area to sale to an entrepreneur in France for delicacy & game hunting to launch what the Italian called the “bunny hop”. He was a stubborn & proud man but would also give his shirt off his back to anyone. He helped out many neighbors and friends & always put others ahead of himself. He enjoyed hunting & many other hobbies with multiple friends including Joe & Rae Haley. Dad had a love for fishing in Salmon,ID & would make yearly trips for decades to fish with his best friend, Roger Rife. He would tell so many stories about all their catch followed up at the end of the day with an E&J brandy shot. He sure missed the fishing trips after Roger passed away & we will sure miss all his fishing stories.

His best years were with our Mom. Throughout their 61 plus years together, they enjoyed the family cabin near Alturas Lake, many wonderful anniversary trips to Mexico, annual Thanksgiving trips to Salmon to visit their dear friends Roger & Judy Rife, summer camping trips to the South Hills, annual trips to the Oregon coast to visit their daughter, Friday happy hour at Scooters, and their nightly drives together w/their dog Boo.

Galen is survived by his children:

Sonya Quale (Steve), Nicole ZeBarth (Brian) & Kurt Lierman; his grandchildren: Ryan Quale (Alyssa), Tanner DeBoard (Taylor), Austin Quale (Josie), Ashley Quale (Jaren), & Landon DeBoard (Micayla); great-grandchildren: Gaby, Boston, Blayke, Taelyn, Easton, Macy, Reevie, Ryker & 2 granddaughters due in February & March; his sister-in-law, Ramona Montgomery; nephew, Jim Daniels (Doris) & his cherished dog, Boo, along with cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Lierman; parents, Martin & Annie Lierman; in-laws Raymond and Frances Montgomery; sister & brother in law Marilyn & Corky Daniels; brothers in-law David & Dennis Montgomery; nephew Dan Daniels; surrogate son, Nick Spencer & many other family & close friends.

The family would like to thank his wonderful neighbors Jim Hurley, Andrea Mouw, & Larry Meyer who all helped watch over our Dad & were not only neighbors but friends. Also, Joyce Lowry & Larry & Susan Ainsworth who would invite him over & listen with patience of his repeated stories about Mom. You all doing that meant the world to him & us.

Cremation services are under Rosenau Funeral Home & Crematory.

You are at peace together with Mom again. We will miss you & always love you!

And some souls are not built to roam,

And a swan cannot live alone,

Without the half that made it whole”
