Jacquie Lou Luff

Jacquie L. Luff passed away at home on June 23 at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Jacquie Lou (Dayley) Luff was born on March 26, 1933, in Oakley, Idaho, the first child of Clifford and Neola Dayley. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1951 and then enrolled at Idaho State College in Pocatello, Idaho. Three semesters later, she traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, where she completed airline training at the Central Technical Institute. Following graduation, she was employed by Continental Airlines in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for about three years. During that time, she had a long-distance courtship with Richard Luff, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in Richfield, Idaho, on May 7, 1955, following Richard’s honorable discharge from the Navy. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Three sons were born to this union: Kelvan, Kendall, and Kimball.

In November 1955, Richard accepted employment with Mountain Bell Phone Company, and they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. They purchased their first home at 206 Ash Street in Kimberly, where they lived from February 1959 until 1998. Although it was a small house, they used their resourcefulness and skills to remodel and enlarge the living area, making it comfortable for their family.

Jacquie served as the custodian for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward building across the street from their home for 20 years. In July 1979, she accepted a position at Betaseed, assisting with sugar beet variety development. She retired after 16 years of dedicated service. Upon retirement, she turned her efforts to civic duty, serving as the Kimberly librarian for three years. She attended librarian training at Idaho State University, after which she and Richard began organizing, remodeling, and upgrading the Kimberly library. Both Jacquie and Richard could often be found serving others throughout the area. In recognition of their commitment to the community, they received the Kimberly Good Neighbor Award in 2000.

Throughout the years, Jacquie collected flags. Her collection included representations from many U.S. states and various nations and traced the evolution of the U.S. flag from England’s 1707 Red Ensign to the present-day flag. She loved displaying the flags and teaching others about the U.S. flag, earning her the nickname “The Flag Lady,” as reported in the local newspaper.

In 1998, they moved a short distance to a larger home, where Jacquie thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family on holidays and special occasions. She loved flowers, and her flower beds were ablaze with color from spring through fall.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jacquie served faithfully in many ward and stake callings. She and Richard served as service missionaries and spent a decade serving in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple, continuing until dementia limited her ability to serve at the age of 88.

Jacquie leaves behind a legacy of dedication, service, kindness, and respect. She is survived by her brother, Devon (Toby) Dayley of Twin Falls, Idaho; sons, Kelvan (Lynne), Kendall (Kathy), and Kimball (Kristie); 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Jacquie was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Neola Dayley; her husband, Richard C. Luff; a sister, Winnie West; a grandson, Zachary Luff; and a great-grandson, Alexander Pierce Luff.

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3850 North 3500 East, Kimberly, Idaho. Friends and family are invited to gather from 10:00–10:45 a.m. prior to the memorial service. Interment will be at the Oakley, Idaho, Cemetery, commencing at 2:30 p.m.
