Jim was born in Altus, Oklahoma, to Betty and Rod Calhoun and grew up in California and Texas.
In 1971, he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento.
There, he joined the rodeo team and developed a passion for the sport. He competed in bull riding, bronc riding, and later team roping. After leaving the service he lived in California, Texas and Idaho.
Camping was one of his favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed campfires and cooking breakfast outdoors. It was during those trips that he taught his daughter, and later his granddaughter, how to fish. His daughter got the bigger fish.
Jim loved going fishing and hunting with his friend Larry.
He and his wife owned and operated Sprinkler Supply for a few years. After selling the store, he went into sales.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi; daughter, Michelle; and granddaughter, Aurora (Greyson).
