Jan Marie Benefield, born April 11, 1956, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Robert and Helen Carey, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on March 9, 2026. She grew up in Twin Falls alongside her brothers, Kelly and Tim, and graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1974.
Jan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She became a mother at a young age when her daughter Briana was born, and the two shared a special bond that remained unbreakable throughout her life. She later became the proud mother of Sabina and Katherine, a role she cherished more than anything. She also lovingly welcomed bonus children Eric, Michelle, and Derrick into her heart after marrying the love of her life, Ernest Benefield.
Jan and Ernest shared a beautiful life together filled with love, laughter, adventure, and unforgettable barbecue. Jan was known for her generous heart, her incredible cooking, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Whether she was preparing homemade meals, baking pies from scratch, helping a neighbor, or sending a thoughtful card, Jan showed her love through every act of kindness.
She was a devoted grandmother and treasured her time with Kaiden and Ayla. Grandma Jan and Ayla shared a bond that was truly inseparable, woven together with deep love and countless cherished moments. Jan also dearly loved her many bonus grandchildren Skylar, Ryan, Tristyn and Quinn and her bonus great-granddaughter Addison, extended family and beloved pets.
Jan will be remembered for her selfless spirit, her fierce love for those around her, and the warmth she brought into every room. She is survived by her daughters, Briana (James) O’Donnell, Sabina Bauman and Katherine (Jimmie) Linn; her brothers, Kelly Carey and Tim Carey; her grandchildren, great-granddaughter, extended family, and many loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Benefield; her parents, Robert and Helen Carey; her grandparents, George and Dorothy Talley; her nephew, Sean Carey; and her beloved dogs, Oliver and Lily.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors and nurses on her medical team for the exceptional care and compassion they provided.
Dr. Skyler Shippen, your dedication went far beyond medical treatment—you cared for our mom with kindness, respect, and genuine warmth. Over time, you became not only her physician, but also a trusted friend whom she deeply loved and cherished. She often expressed how truly grateful she was for you, and that gratitude will remain with us always.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved…
