Jim's life began September 22,1946 at Brooks Army Medical Center in Fort Same Houston, San Antonio, Texas. A wonderful young army Chaplain James Woods and his sweet wife Ora Marie adopted him at just two weeks old. At five years old Jim moved to Manheim Germany when they added to their family by adopting a beautiful little three-year-old girl Jana, now Jim had a little sister to annoy! The army took the family to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, Then to Fort Hood in Texas and back to Manheim Germany, where Jim graduated high school.
He went to go to Evangel College in Springfield, Missouri, that only lasted six months. He tried Arlington State College in Fort Worth, Texas, which lasted about six months. Dad woods told Jim to get a job and start paying rent or join the service. You guessed it he enlisted in the Army in 1966. After basic training, he went to Officer Candidate School graduating with honors. He served in the Vietnam conflict from July 1967 to July 1968 and September 1969 to September 1970. Among the 12 medals Captain Woods received was a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. His Active duty ended in 1972. Jim was in the Army Reserves from 1973 through 1987 when the Army retired Major Jim Woods. He went to work for Sedwick County Sheriffs Office in Wichita Falls, Kansas. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in 1975 from Southwest Missouri State University. He went on to get his Masters of Education Degree from the university of Idaho in May 1978.
Jim took an about face when he married the love of his life Linda on September 9, 1978. The meeting of these two minds is a story to be told! Jim worked at BSU when the pavilion was being built. In 1982 they moved to Richland, Washington, where Jim worked security for the Hanford nuclear site. The fall of 1983 found them in Aiken, South Carolina working security for Savannah River Plant. In 1984 the best thing that ever happened, Jennifer Lynn was born in Augusta, Georgia. Jim, then took his two best girls up the coast to Wappingers, Falls, New York and he enjoyed a two hour round trip drive to work Security in Peekskill, New York. With one last stop in Collinsville, Connecticut in 1988. In 1989 he took his young family on a cross country trip to their new home in Boise, ID to be close to family. Jim began to work for Idaho Department of corrections from 1990 to 2005. Jim and Linda moved to Twin Falls, ID leaving Jeni in Boise in 2003. After retiring in 2005 Jim went to Polygraph School in Arizona, thus beginning a whole new career. This one took him to Iraq in 2011 and Nepal twice to train the local police in how to do polygraphs. this career kept him busy until 2020.
At every stop in our life, Jim made sure we found a great place of worship. Our move to Twin Falls was the best moved we ever made. We joined Twin Falls church of the Nazarene, which is filled with some of the most wonderful people we have ever met. Jim loved motorcycles, Harley Davidson to be exact. There were quite a few motorcycle riders in our church so the Twin Falls church of the Nazarene motorcycle gang was formed. Every year they took a weeklong trip somewhere and he would give every rider an itinerary, and if you weren't ready at the departure time you had to catch up! What fun we had with these wonderful people, you didn't have to have a Harley Davidson to ride but rest assured some comment would made by the fearless leader!
Music was a big part of Jim's life. He played the bass Trombone through out his school years. After his father passed away he learned to play his beautiful Bass Guitar.
Jim's life was so full until frontal lobe dementia started taking over a few years before a diagnosis was made. Our sincere thankfulness and so much love goes out to the staff and wonderful caregivers at Creekside Care Facility in Jerome for taking such great care of Jim. His girls tried not to let a day go by without thanking them. Flanked on each side by his two favorite girls, Jim's Spirit went to paradise on 2/15/2026. We believe in the second coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at that time, the dead in Christ will rise and those that remain will be caught up with the lord, be together again in heaven. Until then we are listening for the trumpet sound!
