Dear dad, we're sitting around the kitchen table with mom and all of us kids, drinking coffee and writing about you. John Hugh Holland was born January 9th, 1942 in Eden, Idaho, to Frank and Maude Holland. He had three other siblings, Doris Turner of Rosemountain, Minnesota, Frankie Brinkman, SLC, Utah, Joan Robinette, Twin Falls, Idaho.
John grew up in Eden, Idaho as the baby boy of his family and loved greatly by his sisters. Minus the time they tried to set him on fire, hang him from a tree and give him to the neighbors.
His family then moved out to Hunt, where he worked on the farm and helped with the dairy. He spent time shooting jack rabbits, riding horses and swimming in the canals with his lifelong friends: Gay Dean Standlee, Richard Schlund and Gary Swainston. John attended Valley High School, where he met Judy Ross. Whom he pestered, chased, stalked and married on December 23rd, 1960.
John then went onto auto body trade school in Pocatello, Idaho. After earning his degree, they then moved back to the area and expanded their family. John and Judy bought the Holland homestead in Hazelton, Idaho in 1969, they started building their home in 1974. In the early 1980's John was named Young Farmer of The Year for Jerome County. John worked at Theisen Motors and then ended his 50+ year career at Snake River Autobody. There he had many laughs and memories with his work wives, Kenny Rogers, Ron Rogers, Rick Burley, Tristan Rogers and many others. John also enjoyed many conversations with his close friend Terry Stigle.
He helped coach women's softball, baseball, umpired, helped with 4-H, our biggest cheerleader in the stands, he,"let us work hard on the farm," and one of his favorite quotes was-Don't make plans for the weekend. He loved John Elway, the outdoors, riding with his friends, having breakfast at T n T, drinking cold Mtn. Dews, being with his favorite 4 legged riding buddies Sam and Gus Gus and all of their many pinnacle parties. John was fortunate to attend The Johnny Carson Show live twice!! John enjoyed the car races, stopping at The Wrangler for milkshakes with Judy, time at their cabin and restoring his 69 Camaro-twice. John also took many family trips to the Oregon coast, Henry's Lake and attended the Cowboys game.
He is proceeded in death by his son-Jason, his mom-Maude, his dad-Frank and his sister-Joan Robinette. John and Judy have 7 kids together; Angie (Holland)Homer, married to Marty Homer, Colton, Garrett,Wyatt and Layne. Johnny Holland married to Stephanie Holland. John was baptized into The Church of Christ where he was a faithful servant to God. He fulfilled many roles in the church, helping wherever he could. He was a man of few words and those who met him were so fortunate. We are honored to call him husband, father and grandpa. John will be missed dearly along with his one liners;
Crooked as a dogs hind leg
Don't be so damn stupid
I'm fine!
Fair to Midland
Case of the No Counts
Blowin Like It's Getting Paid For It
Ain't worth shootin
Our dad didn't walk on water, but he was darn close to it. The End!
