John K Urie

October 15, 1939 — May 16, 2018

John Keith Urie of Filer passed away at his home on May 16, 2018 at the age of 78. Born in Twin Falls to Winnifred and Albert Urie on October 15, 1939. John is survived by his wife Beryl of 52 years, daughters Wendy (Joe) Hill & Bonnie (Clint) Lutz, sons Rick & Ron, brothers Lee (Barbara) Urie and Carl (Lillie) Urie, Grandchildren Cameron, Kaila (Alex), Jonah, Micki, Anaka, Bekka, Luka, Levi, Bethany, and Great Grandchildren Ariat and Kita. John is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill, sister Rose and grandson Caleb. John graduated from Filer High School in 1957. After high school he enlisted in the Army where he served for 2 years. Just a few months after his discharge from the Army, he met and married Beryl in Grand Rapids, MI. In 1972 he moved his family to the old homestead in the Snake River Canyon located 4 miles west of Centennial Park. The iconic cable car was just a way of life to him and his family although it was such a unique invention that several newspaper and magazine articles, including Life Magazine (1954) featured the Urie family. John was well known in the community for 35 years as the owner/operator of Urie Heating and Air Conditioning. He enjoyed tinkering on vehicles and even racing Thunder Stock race cars and became the 2002 Thunder Stock champion at Magic Valley Speedway. He seemed to have the "magic touch" to getting anything back in working order. Friends and family near and far would call on John for help with anything and he was always available. His twinkling eyes, quick smile and easy-going spirit will be missed by all, but we rejoice in the assurance of his strong faith in a loving and gracious God. A celebration of John's life will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Filer First Baptist Church at 11am. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
