Joyce Burkhart

Joyce Carol Hansen Newton Burkhart died August 1, 2025. She was born May 16,1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the oldest and only daughter of four children of Omar and Virginia Hansen. She graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah until she married James Harlan Newton in 1950.

Four children were born of this union, two daughters, Kim Newton and Kyle (Dave) Kovar, and two sons, Kevin (Eileen) Newton and Kelly Newton. The family moved to Idaho in 1968. Her husband, Jim, died in 1974. She then married Leon Burkhart in 1980. He died in 1996.

Her family was the most important part of her life. She is survived by her three children, six grandsons, and four granddaughters, and 15 great-grandchildren, and her brother Lynn (Jean) Hansen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Kelly Newton, great-granddaughter Zoey Marie Erdmann, and brothers Gary Hansen and Lamar Hansen.

She will be buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah next to her husband James H. Newton.
