Kendrick Alton Gould, Jr.

July 20, 1935 — March 6, 2026

Rev. Kendrick A. Gould died peacefully in his sleep at age 90 on 6 March 2026 in Sewickley, PA.

Born 20 July 1935 in Moultonborough, NH to Kendrick A. Gould, Sr. and Lenora (Copp) Gould, Ken graduated from Meredith High School and attended The New England School of Theology in Boston, MA. His lifelong love of music and singing began there as a member of a gospel quartet that performed on radio stations and in churches from Maine to Florida.

He then joined the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic for four years. During that time, Ken met Ingrid Doellefeld at a church picnic, beginning their 60-year partnership. After Ken and Ingrid married in Tacoma, WA, Ken left the Air Force and they moved to Lenox, MA, where he completed his undergraduate degree in 1963 at Berkshire Christian College.

They moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Ken graduated from the North American Baptist Seminary in 1966. Following ordination, he served first as pastor of Startup Baptist Church in Startup, WA, then entered active duty as an Army chaplain. He ministered to troops at Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Lewis, and with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in the Republic of Vietnam. After leaving active duty, Ken joined the Army Reserve as a chaplain, retiring as a lieutenant colonel after 26 years of military service.

In his civilian ministry spanning three decades, Ken served as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church congregations in Coeur d’Alene, ID; Great Falls, MT; and Twin Falls, ID. Together with Ingrid, Ken helped thousands of people navigate spiritual journeys, and the questions, struggles, and celebrations of life.

Retiring from full-time ministry in 1997 did not slow Ken’s commitment to service. He volunteered as a Bible study leader at the Church of the Nazarene in Twin Falls, ID, provided assistance for funeral homes, and received frequent invitations to preach at other churches.

When he wasn’t tinkering at his workbench or perusing car magazines in a perpetual pursuit of his elusive dream car, Ken and Ingrid enjoyed traveling together. They made numerous trips to Europe and visited family and friends throughout the United States—all well-documented thanks to Ken’s enthusiasm for photography.

After Ingrid’s death in July 2020, Ken moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to family. He resided at Masonic Village of Sewickley, where he remained engaged even in his final years, freely trading quips delivered with a wink. Ken’s family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Gateway Hospice team and Masonic Village aides, nurses, recreation leaders, cooks, facility caretakers, volunteer clergy, fellow residents, and even the jolly therapy dogs. With kindness, patience, and grace, they all surrounded him with loving care.

Ken is survived by his sons, Mark (Lisa) of Lafayette, CA, and Paul (Lori) of Sewickley, PA, and two grandchildren, Addison and Matilda.

His funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on 18 March 2026 at Rosenau Funeral Home in Twin Falls, ID, with burial to follow alongside Ingrid at Sunset Memorial Park.
