Larry Maurice Capps passed Thursday, July 9th at the age of 81. He was born Oct. 23, 1944, the son of Maurice and Belle Capps. He attended schools in Hansen and graduated from Gooding High School in 1963. Larry attended ISU and received a machine shop certificate. He then began work for Boeing in Seattle as a machinist. In 1965, he enlisted in the Navy and served four years on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. Upon his return home, he operated his own machine shop for a short time in Gooding. He then turned to farming and raising swine and cattle northwest of Gooding. He married Lori Buster on Feb. 27, 1976, and they had two daughters. Larry served on several boards, including the Gooding County Fire Commission and Gooding Soil Conservation. He was a 4-H leader and swine superintendent of the Gooding County Fair for many years, operating his custom hay hauling business simultaneously. After semi-retiring from farming, Larry and Lori moved closer to Gooding. He continued Capps Hay Hauling and worked at Hailey Nursery alongside his friend Bob McHargue. With the help of friends, he rebuilt a 1952 5-window Chevy pickup. In 2015, Larry and Lori moved to Twin Falls. He began working for the Parks and Recreation department doing maintenance. During his time in Twin Falls, he attended a tri-weekly coffee group with friends Tom, Larry, and Rick. Over the years, his interests included snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and camping. Family and friends created memories camping together in Pine. Larry and Lori celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Larry is survived by his wife, Lori; daughters, Kami (Travis) and Karrie (RD); grandchildren, Dax (Hailey), Natalie (Jairo), and Mya & Ronan; three great-grandchildren; sister, Carol (Bob) Meyer; brother, Steve (Linda) Capps; nieces and nephews, Susan, Mack, Ty (Jordy, Ronin), Susan, Sara, and Tawnya; aunt, Ila Capps; and numerous cousins.
