Lyle Earl Sheneman, devoted husband, caring father and beloved granddad passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the age of 78 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Lyle was born in Fruita, Colorado on September 9, 1945. He was the fourth child of Francis Watson and Ralph Earl Sheneman. Lyle’s parents were loving, kind and caring people who loved to read. Due to Ralph’s work in construction the family moved often including to Nebraska, Colorado, Idaho and California. Lyle attended nine different schools. After Lyle’s father died suddenly in an accident, the family settled in Loveland, Colorado. While attending Loveland High School Lyle walked past a classroom where they were teaching drafting. He decided right then and there that he wanted to become an architect.
Lyle graduated from Loveland High School in 1964 and enlisted in the Colorado National Guard where he served honorably for a five year term. Lyle worked for many years as an architectural draftsman. When he finally had enough hours as a draftsman, he sat for the Architect Registration Examination, which was a 32 hour exam taken over three days. After much preparation and study Lyle passed the exam and became a Licensed Architect in the state of Colorado. One of his dreams was to belong to the American Institute of Architects, which he did.
After becoming a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1966, Lyle met the love of his life, Judith Ann Brownlee, in May 1972 at a church activity. After a whirlwind courtship, Lyle and Judi married on September 16, 1972 in the Provo, Utah temple. After several moves Lyle and Judi settled in Grand Junction, Colorado to raise their family. They were married over 51 years.
Lyle was a proud and engaged father and granddad. He showed his love for his children and grandchildren through his talents and service. Lyle was a talented builder and craftsman and helped his children with endless home projects including laying tile, brick, cement, and finishing basements. Lyle was also a gifted photographer. He enjoyed planning adventures with Judi where he could take beautiful pictures, and enjoyed sharing his pictures with his children and grandchildren. Lyle loved cars and working on cars, especially Fords. He built a ’27 Ford Roadster and painted it bright orange. His car won an award at one of the many car shows he attended. Lyle loved taking his grandchildren for rides in his roadster.
Lyle worked as an independent architect, and then later in the Physical Facilities department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He inspected many church buildings and temples. His travels took him to every state except one. He also traveled to many different countries while working for the church including living for one year in American Samoa.
Above all Lyle valued his relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ and it guided him in every aspect of his life. Lyle served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ in many capacities including as a Bishop, ward missionary and teacher. Lyle and Judi served together in an inner-city mission in Salt Lake City, Utah and then later as temple workers at the Jordan River Temple.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Judi; his siblings, Steve (June), Eileen (Marvin) Hanson, Inez (Vernon) Schneider, Joan (Bill) Bertram, and Bruce (Linda); his ten children, Sheila (Doug) Honeycutt, Kari (Bill) Smith, Teri (Mike) Shotwell, Damon (Jessica), Brad (Libby), Danelle (Nicholas) Empey, Doug (Laura), Ann (Chris) Reid, Brent (Marisa), and Monica (JR) Fisco; and his 30 grandchildren.
