Nick was born in Ilosk, Poland (now Belarus) on January 3, 1925 and, after World War II, immigrated to the United States with his parents, Alexander and Anastasia Sidlaruk, and his two sisters, Zoia and Lydia. During his time in America, he lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Idaho.
