Otto Wiersma

June 10, 1929 — July 2, 2021

Otto Wiersma, 92, of Buhl, Idaho went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 2, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Otto was born on June 10, 1929 to Jim and Beatrice (Smit) Wiersma in Artesia, CA. He was the second child of five children. He grew up on a dairy and was part of the dairy community where he met so many of his lifetime friends. Ed De Jager, Hank Visser, Al Kooiman, Art Bergsma, the Vanderham brothers and so many more. He attended Bellflower Christian School until his father passed away and left school to help his mother on the family dairy. His mother was a devout Christian and raised the family in the love of Christ and was active at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount, CA. Otto met the love of his life, Gladys Plaiser, at church youth group called “Endeavor”. They married on May 19, 1949 in Hynes, CA. Otto and Gladys began a partnership in the dairy business with his brother Pete and wife Ellen located in Ontario, CA. During this time, they raised their four children with good Christian values and putting God first in their lives. They were active members at Lincoln Reformed Church in Pomona, CA. During the years they took many trips with friends all over the world. In 1990, Otto and Gladys moved to Buhl, Idaho to be near their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They became active members of the Twin Falls Reformed Church joining the “Young At Heart” and participating in numerous activities. Otto and Art Bergsma started a men’s coffee group that would meet twice a month at the Jackson’s Kountry Korner in Buhl. Otto and Gladys enjoyed having family and friends over for celebrating occasions or for a good game of cards. In 2016, Otto lost the love of his life of 66 years. A day never went by that he did not think of Gladys. He made sure there was a Bible Verse in every birthday card sent out to family and friends and keeping in touch with everyone. Where ever he went, he left a “Silver Coin” engraved with the verse John 3:16 as his witness to all he crossed paths with. During these last years he has spent his time out with family and friends for a coffee & pastry, breakfast, lunch or dinner. He loved to be out of the house and taken on drives that took him to see friends, family & new places. He loved being out in the sun…and when ever possible there was always music playing. He had a wonderful sense of humor and wit and loved to share it with all! Otto is survived by his son Jim Wiersma of Valdosta, GA; daughters Beverly (Mike) Donahue of Meridian, ID, Mary Schindel of Meridian, ID, Annette (Carmon) Cress of Buhl, ID; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and a sister Betty (Ed) Scheenstra of Ontario, CA.
