Peggy Stevens

Jun 8, 1948 — Sep 21, 2026

Peggy Stevens, 78, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Peggy was born in Wendell, Idaho, on June 8, 1948, to Howard and Velma McMillan of Jerome, Idaho. She joined her older brother, Vernon, and was later blessed with younger siblings Jay and Jill. Peggy graduated from Jerome High School in 1966 and married Fred Gratzer. They were blessed with two sons, Nick and Mike, and made their home north of Jerome. Although they later divorced, Peggy and Fred remained friends throughout the years.

Peggy worked as a bookkeeper for Big O Tires in Jerome before pursuing her passion for healthcare. She attended Idaho State University and earned her degree in Pharmacology in 1994. That same year, she married Jim Stevens, beginning a life together that would take them to Texas for many years.

Peggy and Jim returned to Idaho nearly every September to spend time with family and friends, and to enjoy the activities they loved—golfing, hiking, and simply being together. After retiring, they returned to Idaho permanently and made their home in Twin Falls, allowing them to be closer to family.

One of Peggy’s most treasured traditions was the family’s annual trips to Yuma, Arizona, where she and Jim spent time with her mother and celebrated the family’s many “June” birthdays. Peggy especially enjoyed helping in her mother’s yard, tackling the cleaning and pruning in the early June heat, and preparing delicious meals for everyone. Those gatherings created many cherished memories for her family.

Peggy loved the outdoors and could outwalk just about everyone. She was strong, determined, thoughtful, and kind, with a quiet, no-nonsense presence that left a lasting impression on those who knew her. She found great joy in preparing elaborate meals, as well as healthy salads and vegetables, for family and friends. She took tremendous pride in her yard and flower beds, where weeds simply did not stand a chance.

She loved hiking wherever the trail led, with the Sawtooth Mountains holding a particularly special place in her heart. She also enjoyed golfing, biking, snow skiing, and gathering around a campfire with family and friends. Peggy lived life with purpose and quiet strength, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Velma McMillan, and her brother, Jay McMillan.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Stevens; her older brother, Vernon McMillan; her younger sister, Jill (John) Muratet; her sons, Nick (Amy) Gratzer and Mike (Jessica) Gratzer; and her granddaughter, Kyleigh (Josh) Butler.

Peggy’s family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in Heaven for eternity, peacefully waiting for Jim to join her. Peggy and Jim especially cherished their Sundays together at Lighthouse Church and the fellowship they shared there.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care and support provided by Hospice Visions, especially Tanja, RN, and Jessica, SW. It was especially meaningful to Peggy and her family that she had the opportunity to get to know Tanja at the Visions golf tournament last August.

In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, her family will gather privately around a roaring campfire to honor and celebrate her life—a fitting tribute to a woman who loved the outdoors, treasured her family and friends, and found joy in the simple moments of being together.

Peggy’s quiet strength, generous heart, and love for the people and places that mattered most to her will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.
