Penny Lyn
Newbry
Jul 5, 1952 — Sep 6, 2026
Friday
Rosenau Funeral Home & Crematory
4:00 - 5:00 pm (Mountain time)
Penny Lyn Newbry, a devoted mother, grandmother, partner, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026. Surrounded by the love of family, she was at peace and ready to go home.
Born July 5, 1952, in Jerome, Idaho, to Frayne and Muriel Shouse, Penny’s roots were deep in Southern Idaho. In 1956, her family established a beloved Rupert homestead full of crops, animals, and memories before she graduated from Minico High School in 1970.
After attending Idaho State University, Penny fondly remembered working at Twin Falls' Rogerson Restaurant before marrying Charles Newbry in 1975. During 32 years of marriage, they traveled extensively across the Western US, Penny happily enjoying the open road while he worked, before settling down to raise a family.
Penny poured her whole heart into being a mama; always finding ways to be involved in her kids’ lives. She found deep joy teaching computer lab at Sawtooth, Hansen, and Oregon Trail elementaries, instinctively ensuring every student felt safe, cared for, and loved and easily becoming a favorite part of her students’ days.
While raising her family, Penny was an active part of Twin Falls' First United Methodist Church, building lifetime friendships. For the last 20 years, she shared her life, home, and companionship with partner Leonard Grant.
Truly selfless, outgoing, and generous, Penny was the quintessential neighbor—always lending a cup of sugar and welcoming neighborhood kids as her own. She possessed a lifelong passion for travel, gardening and entertaining, eagerly bringing family, friends, and colleagues together to cultivate memories.
Survived by Leonard; children Andrew and Jana; former husband Charles; sisters Antonia, Kelly, and Jody; and grandchildren Alex, Maisie, Katie, Jason, and Clara—her endless pride and joy. She also leaves behind countless friends, extended family, and "adopted grandchildren." Cherish every memory; they don’t make Pennys like they used to!
A memorial service will be held at Rosenau Funeral Home on Friday September 11, 2026 at 4pm with a gathering to follow. A live stream can be viewed by clicking this link: Penny Newbry Livestream .
