Reva B. Johnston

March 31, 1930 — September 8, 2012

Reva was born Mar 31 1930 at Shelley, Idaho, the second daughter of Joseph and Dora Ruth Abbot Smuin. Shortly after her birth the family moved to the Mud Lake/Terreton area north of Idaho Falls. She attended first through the eighth grade in that area and graduated from high school in Roberts, Idaho. Reva married Robert V. Daniels 10 April 1951 in Idaho Falls. They had two children, Renn Val and Gwenda Ruth. Robert died at the hospital 1 Sep 1964 in Baker, Oregon as the result of a car accident near Halfway, Oregon. Reva then relocated back to Terreton, Idaho where she and her children resided near her parents. Soon after, she got a job as a waitress at Herb's Cafe in Dubois, Idaho. At this time she moved to her sister's ranch at Monteview to be closer to her job. It was still a long drive to work and she and her children re-located to Dubois. At about the same time, Howard Johnston and his two children moved to Dubois, right across the street from Reva. The four children all got acquainted right away, but it was some time before Howard got up the courage to ask her to attend a Ladies Nite at the Dubois Lions Club. Reva and Howard were married in a civil ceremony at her sister Dorothy's house in Monteview. They honeymooned in the Sun Valley and Salmon areas. They were later sealed to one another in the Idaho Falls Temple, 31 Aug. 1976. In Oct 1976 Howard was transferred to Joslin Field at the Twin Falls Airport and at this time they purchased a house in Kimberly. Reva worked four years selling life insurance. Howard retired in 1984 due to a back injury. In Sep 2001, Howard was diagnosed with cancer. Reva helped Howard through these troubled years. Her devotion to her husband never wavered. In the fall of 2011, Reva started experiencing memory problems. In April 2012, Reva was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She passed away at 1 pm on Sep 8, in the loving company of her family. Reva is survived by her husband, Howard Johnston, of Kimberly; son Renn (Cheryl) Daniels of Alpine, Utah, daughter Gwenda (Jerry) Lockwood of Hansen, step-daughter Connie (Jon) Hunt of Kimberly, stepson John (Lois) Johnston of Spring Creek, Nevada; brother Larmie (LauraLee) Joseph Smuin of American Falls, sister Janice (Orson) Rawson of Pocatello; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, grand and great grandchildren. Reva was pre-deceased by her parents and older sister, Dorothy McCrary. A special thanks to Drs. McKee and Anders and all the other caregivers at St. Lukes; Nikole Hunt; Dori Lockwood; Carol Hunt; Linda Bentley, manager at Ashley Manor as well as all the staff and residents. Reva’s whole life revolved around her family. She was a wife and mother first and foremost. She was an excellent cook, and her children remember coming home from school in anticipation of fresh baked bread and cookies. She was a great friend and confidant to her children. She loved getting together with the entire family, and loved her grandchildren very much. She will be greatly missed. My marriage to Reva was a perfect merge. We both loved reading, travelling, hiking and dancing. She was a talented amateur oil painter and won many ribbons at the Twin Falls County Fair. We loved and respected each other until the very end. Bon voyage, my love... A viewing for Reva will be held from 6-7:30 pm on Friday, September 14th at Rosenau Funeral Home. Her funeral will be held at the Kimberly Ward Building on Birch in Kimberly at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15th with the family greeting friends 1 hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Hazelton Cemetery. Bishop Satterfield will be conducting. Among the speakers at the funeral will be her nephew, Glenn Rawson.
