Robert “Bob” Dean Schwertfeger (84) passed away on November 3, 2025, at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho, of natural causes. Bob was born on December 19, 1940, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Dean and Jean (Eulberg) Schwertfeger. His childhood and school years were spent in Medford, Oklahoma.
Bob and Carolyn Burt were married on December 26, 1959, in Medford, Oklahoma. Not long after, Bob graduated from Okmulgee Technical School and began his career as a diesel mechanic. This brought Bob, Carolyn, and their first three boys, Jerry, Gary and Terry, to Twin Falls, Idaho. Several years later, along came another boy, Derek. The family enjoyed frequent camping trips to the Wood River Valley, many fun times at Lagoon in Salt Lake, and treks back to Oklahoma whenever possible. Bob and Carolyn divorced in 1992.
Bob had a long career at Magic Valley International, from diesel mechanic to Service Manager. He served in the Army Reserves in his early adult years and was also active in the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Night for his local chapter and forming many friendships at the parish hall.
Bob met Glenda Brown and her daughter Grace, with whom he would spend the next chapter of his life, in 1996. Bob and Glenda made many memories over the years at Lagoon, Disney World and Disneyland with Derek and his family and Grace and hers. They also travelled extensively with Grace and Steven, across the U.S. and abroad, including visits to several European countries and the Caribbean, for as long as their health allowed.
Bob is survived by his four sons – Jerry, Gary (and Wendy), Terry (and Charlotte), and Derek; his daughter in every meaningful way – Grace Sweatfield (and Steven); eight grandchildren – Brian, Jeremy (and Alaina), TJ (and Jessica), Danny (and Hailey), Madison, Hunter, Jadyn, and Arya; and seven great grandchildren ranging from seven weeks to 20 years old. He is also survived by his brother Bill (and Vonya), sister Di (and Phil) and their families. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his companion Glenda Brown, her son Christopher Leader, and granddaughter Arwen.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date.
