With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Ruth Kestie, 84. Ruth was born on New Year’s Eve, 1940, in Denver, Colorado to Jesse Pecht and Opal Patterson Pecht. She spent her childhood in Clearfield, Utah, and graduated from Davis High School before briefly attending nursing school.
The summer of 1959, Ruth ventured to Battle Mountain, Wyoming, where she worked at a dude ranch. It was there that she met her first love, Edward Carr of Big Piney, Wyoming. They married on July 23, 1960, and together they had four beautiful daughters: Jessie, Cheryl, Toni, and Leann. The family lived in Big Piney until Ed’s job transfer took them to Idaho in the early 1970s. Ruth's life took a painful turn when Ed passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 1976.
She then went to work at Dahle’s dress shop as a store manager while raising her four daughters with unparalleled love and dedication. She found a second love with Howard Kestie, whom she married on April 19, 1991. Howard brought a fifth child into the family, a son, Kraig Kestie.
Ruth’s career in the service of others continued when she worked at the First United Methodist Church until her retirement. She was an active member of the Welcome Wagon, Parents Without Partners, an Avon representative, and a hospital chaplain. She also found joy in playing cards, watching game shows and scrapbooking.
However, Ruth’s true legacy was found in the love and care she poured into her family and friends. To step through her door was to be welcomed with open arms, a warm meal, and a heart full of love. She found her greatest joy in a home filled with family, friends, and laughter, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
