Shelley Marie Callen, age 67, was born on December 23, 1958, in Denver, Colorado, to James and Barbara Rodgers. She passed away peacefully at her family home on August 21, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Shelley was meant to be a cowgirl. Born into a ranching family, she loved the outdoors, farm animals, and especially her horses. She showed her love for the ranch from an early age and even proudly showed 4-H steers at the county fair. The ranch and the Western way of life were always a special part of who Shelley was.
The Rodgers family lived in Idaho for thirty years, where Shelley attended school and graduated with the class of 1976. She later married Lyn Callen in 1980; they resided on the family ranch, and together they raised three children: Michelle Stevens, Dolphy (Erin) Callen, and Tom (Kendra) Callen. Shelley was blessed with eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and pride.
At the age of 28, Shelley experienced the first signs of multiple sclerosis. Throughout the many years that followed, she faced the challenges of her illness with remarkable strength and determination. She rarely complained and continued working on the ranch despite the physical limitations caused by her illness. She especially loved horseback riding, and her love for horses and the ranch remained with her throughout her life. Her love of horses continued on with her even through the later years of her life and she continued to ride at Rising Stars Riding arena where she and her horse, Sarge, spent many hours together and her smile never ended.
Shelley will be remembered for her toughness, independence, love of the ranch, and devotion to her family. She lived her life with the heart of a true cowgirl, raising bottle babies, well anything little really and cooking for the crew, she never allowed the difficulties she faced to take away the things she loved most.
Shelley was preceded in death by her father, James; her nephew, Wyatt Rodgers; her great-nephew, Stetson Rodgers; and her in-laws, Doc and Erma Lee Callen.
She is survived by her husband, Lyn; her three children, Michelle, Dolphy, and Tom; her mother, Barbara Rodgers; her brothers, Patrick and Paul; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Although Shelley will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing that after so many years of suffering, she is finally at peace and free from pain. Her love for her family, her horses, and the ranch will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Ride on, Shelley. You were always a cowgirl at heart.
