Thomas Sam Overacre

September 15, 1934 — February 4, 2012

Thomas Sampson “Sam” Overacre, 77, passed away February 4, 2012 at his home in Kimberly, Idaho. Sam was born September 15, 1934 in the Ozark Mountains in Carroll County Arkansas to Thomas Jefferson and Edith Farmer Overacre. At age 6, his mother moved to Sanger, California with Sam and his younger sister to find work during the depression. Sam joined the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War. He served with the 98th Bomb Wing in Japan. In 1953 he met Flora Krumm in Hagerman, Idaho on his way to the Mountain Home Air Force Base after returning from overseas. They were married August 1, 1954 at the Methodist church in Hagerman. They lived in Washington, California, Texas, and Idaho. In 1978, Sam and Flora established the Overacre Insurance Agency in Kimberly, Idaho. Retiring in 1996, Sam and Flora spent several years enjoying the winter months in Mesa, Arizona. The Overacre’s suffered the loss of two sons throughout their marriage. In March 1963, their second son, Mitchell, died at the age of 5 in an accident at the family’s home. In April 1995, their oldest son, Monte, died at age 39 in an airplane crash in Central America. Sam’s parents also preceded him in death. Sam is survived by his wife of 56 years; his sister, Shirley Sargent of Fresno, California; two sons, Edward Overacre (Julie) and David Overacre (Christina); and two daughters, Trina Plew (George) and Janey Overacre. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He always stayed in close contact with his grandchildren and spent as much time as he could with them to pass along his wisdom, insight, poetry, and jokes. Having been raised solely by his mother because of a broken home, Sam was always devoted to his family. Love and Christian faith kept the family relations intact. Sam would say “foolish pride and ego from self-centeredness endangers family unity, which can lead to torment and heartache”. Sam will be greatly missed by all who know and love him. Sam was a member of the United Reform Church in Twin Falls, Idaho. Memorial contributions may be made in the memory of Sam to the Salvation Army, Hospice Visions, or Humane Society in Twin Falls, Idaho. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 10 at Rosenau Funeral Home in Twin Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at Rosenau Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Family and friends are encouraged to share their memories at www.rosenaufuneralhome.com
