Timothy Michael Obenchain

Timothy Michael “Tim” Obenchain, 72, of Twin Falls, Idaho, peacefully passed away on September 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Tim was born on March 7, 1953, in Boise, Idaho, to Daniel and Shirley Obenchain. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1972 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration, with a minor in real estate, from Boise State University in 1976.

After college, Tim discovered his passion for the insurance business. In 1979, he returned to Twin Falls to join his father at Obenchain Insurance. Later that year, he proudly purchased the agency and went on to serve the community for more than 38 years before retiring in 2017.

In 1973, Tim married Kim Bengochea (James), and together they were blessed with two daughters, Reisa and Trisha. Tim later found love again and, in 1995, married Shawna Detweiler (Obenchain), and through this union, their families blended, bringing Tayler and Cooper into his life.

In retirement, Tim stayed active by pursuing side ventures, while also enjoying winters in Phoenix, Arizona. He loved collecting cars, golfing, and most of all, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events.

In April 2025, Tim was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma. He fought his illness with the same optimism and determination that marked his career and life. After completing chemotherapy in August and entering remission, his body, weakened from treatment, was unable to overcome a sudden infection.

Tim is survived by his loving wife, Shawna; his children: Reisa (Jacob) Florence, Trisha (Troy) Nickel, Tayler (Chris) Hengel, and Cooper (Danielle) Chapin; and his eight beloved grandchildren: Brooklynn, Brent, Otto, James, Vivien, Beckham, Emerson, and Rory. He is also survived by his sister Kathy (Hal) Fobes and sister-in-law Jessie Obenchain.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dan Obenchain; his mothers, Shirley Orchard and Mary Obenchain; his brother, Terry; and his grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Canyon Crest Event Center in Twin Falls. Those who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
