Verl Dee Tillberg Yergensen

July 20, 1943 — November 2, 2025

Verl Dee Tillberg Yergensen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 20, 1943, in Richfield, Utah, to Axel Yergensen and Vida DeMille, Verl grew up in the close-knit community of Monroe, learning early the values of faith, family, and hard work. As the third of four children, he could often be found helping on the family farm. His days started well before dawn, milking cows before heading to school and basketball practice, all while making time to nurture friendships and, notably, his budding relationship with the love of his life, Connie Conder. In his senior year of high school, he was the star of the South Sevier Varsity Ram basketball team, and he was the high scorer in almost every game that season, taking the team to the State Tournament.

Verl attended the College of Southern Utah on a basketball scholarship before he transferred to Weber State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Verl and Connie were married May 11, 1962, in Las Vegas and then sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on December 3, 1963. Together they built a wonderful life, raising eight children: Russell, Julie, Elizabeth, Jay Dee, Curtis, Katie, Brent, and Joseph. Some were born in Salt Lake City; some in Clearfield, Pocatello, Great Falls, and finally Twin Falls. Verl’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by his family. He cherished their annual gatherings, outdoor adventures, family vacations, and simple traditions, especially time spent with grandchildren, whose laughter and joy fueled his own.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Verl faithfully served in many callings including High Council, Bishopric, Elders Quorum President, and Scoutmaster. He and Connie served in the LDS Spanish branch in Murtaugh, Idaho for 7 ½ years, which was a wonderful privilege. They also served as temple workers in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple for over 10 years, a source of immeasurable joy and spiritual strength. Verl’s commitment and testimony of his Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, dedicated his daily life. He was known for his courage and love of the scriptures and his desire to share his faith through personal word and deed.

Verl was a true disciple of Christ, always happy, ready with a smile and a joke to brighten anyone’s day. His optimism and infectious laughter brought joy and light to all who knew him. He had a special gift for making everyone feel loved and valued.

He also took great pride in working and owning his Chevron station, where he created a warm and welcoming environment for everyone who walked through the doors. Verl made it a priority to offer employment to women and youth who needed support, often mentoring and promoting those striving for a better future. He was well-known for going above and beyond for both his customers and employees, ensuring that all felt valued and respected at his business. He also owned a Tire Store and bought and sold vehicles.

His love for the outdoors and sports was well known. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons and was an avid basketball player throughout his youth and college years. He loved to tell others he was the fastest person in his high school. Verl’s competitive spirit was matched only by his sportsmanship and encouragement to others. He loved animals and cherished trips and travels with Connie and their family, including a favorite trip to Cancun, where he delighted in scuba diving and exploring the wonders beneath the waves.

Verl had a wonderful sense of adventure, and a sweet tooth to match. Many of his favorite memories included sneaking out for treats and sweets with those he loved, making even the simplest outings a special occasion. Friends and family alike would smile to find him relaxing in a quiet corner, proving time and again that he could always find the perfect spot for a quick nap, even on busy days or noisy adventures.

Verl’s life was defined by his kindness, integrity, and Christlike love. He served others quietly and wholeheartedly, was quick to lend a helping hand or offer a warm embrace and always chose to see the best in those around him. His legacy of faith, hard work, and genuine compassion is a treasured gift to his posterity and all who were blessed to know him.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Connie Yergensen; his children Russell (Lisa) Yergensen, Julie (Galen) Staley, Elizabeth (Brian) Cox, Jay Dee (Marcella) Yergensen, Curtis (Laura) Yergensen, Katie (Kerry Clifton) Estrada, Brent (Celeste) Yergensen, and Joseph (Jessica) Yergensen; 34 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Melbourne (Helena) Yergensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Vida Yergensen; brother Karl (Toni) Yergensen, and sister Lillie Yergensen.
